"Extremely rude receptionist"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

Firstly, 3 of my children work in differing positions in the NHS and I spend a lot of time defending the service. However my own experience when I took my 88 year old mother to A & E on the direction of the district nurses was truly appalling. The receptionist was not only rude and aggressive but so unhelpful I was shocked. I remained calm and polite throughout whereas the receptionist merely shrugged, sighed, said we couldn't be logged in as the computers weren't working and there was nothing they could do. After waiting over an hour having been sent by the district nurses who had contacted the A &E sister in advance as the procedure needed was an emergency I had to ring the district nurse office and explain the situation. They confirmed that they had rung in advance, that my mother could not wait and they would ring again. I did speak to the receptionist to explain once again but they refused to help, so completely out of character I spoke to a passing nurse who ushered us straight through to a very competent and helpful doctor. So without naming names the receptionist on duty at 1.30pm on Thursday 30 April should be very ashamed of their totally unprofessional attitude as being the first port of call let's the whole service down. I am writing to the Kings complaints team as having left it 24 hours I am still appalled NY the service.
