"care of my elderly mother"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

My elderly mother was admitted to ward 78 two weeks ago. she was very dehydrated and confused. She struggled to feed herself and was unable to walk. her bed table was not close enough for her to get her drink even if she was able. All the other ladies were in the same boat too. She fell out of bed and was found on the floor at 4am one morning by a member of staff. I told the staff that any decisions to be made regarding mum that i was to be notified. she suffered dehydration most of the time she was in that ward and only ate properly when assisted. she also tried to get out of her bed again she was then allocated a bed in a rehab unit in cobridge i was only told when she'd been taken there. this move i thought was totally unacceptable as i thought with her having symptoms of mild dementia (sticker on her wall chart) they wouldn't be able to cope with her. This proved right. when i received a phone call saying shed fallen and cut her head which needed stitches. (she'd been there less than 24 hours) they were not told of her dementia, high risk of falling by ward 78 at all. She is now back on feau dehydrated,confused,battered and bruised. The contact details given to 78 were not recorded correctly. i know staff are very busy but these ladies are frail,elderly and sick. they need to be fed and administerd fluids regularly. Not just have meals dumped in front of them and taken away 30 mins later without being touched.while i was visiting mum i helped other patients its very sad to see.
