"All the staff room A&E through ..."

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

(as a relative),

What I liked

All the staff room A&E through to assessment and treatment wards were first class

What could be improved

Communication. When you are 89 and unwell in a strange environment I often found my Father confused as to his treatment . Relatives should be provide with an update when visiting

Parking. It is appalling for staff and visitors . My Mother is disabled and on one visit it was imposible to find a space for more than half an hour

Anything else?

When visiting in the evening the main entrance is locked. There is no clear signage on alternative entrances. My Mother is disabled and acces to vist my Father in the evening was problematical . It cannot be right that you park in the main car park – then enter via Abbey Wing go through wards to get to assesment ward.

Discharge. My Father took his medication with him when taken into hospital by ambulance. It was take off him and not returned . On discharge at 12 noon his new medication was not ready neither was his discharge letter. It is still not ready 24 hours later. It is not acceptable to discharge elederly and confused patients without their medication and discharge information. This issue overshadows a first class service by staff who looked after my Father

The Trust is very aware that parking at St Peter’s hospital can be difficult at busy times. We are looking at a range of options to improve our car parking, subject to planning permission, and are committed to making this fundamental improvement for patients. It is also clear that we need to improve some of our signage and apologise for the inconvenience you encountered accessing our ward area.

Regarding the delays you experienced waiting to be discharged, we know this process needs to be improved for some patients, and that waiting for this amount of time is not acceptable. We are currently doing some practical work with our staff to review how we discharge patients to see if we can improve and speed up our processes. We are very pleased that overall you have described your care as first-class, but appreciate that there are improvements to be made.
