"A&E couldn't do enough ..."

About: East Surrey Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

A&E couldn't do enough for me despite it being new years day. From the amublance staff to nurses and doctors in A&E, they were fantastic and looked after me and my family extremely well, keeping them up to date with what they needed to do next and the doctor himself did most of the tests and kept appearing in cubicles to update us.

What could be improved

the communication between surgical and medical teams was non existant, I spent the weekend in hospital with no doctor in charge, the excuse was (when a nurse chased up the doctors) they thought the other team were dealing with me!!!

Anything else?

After a week in hospital, and eventually an operation, the aftercare was not great. I was sent home after 2 days, by doctors who knew nothing about me, I was not informed about what to expect, how long before I could do normal activities, when the stitches would be removed or if they would disolve, it was a case of you've had the op, we need the bed for others.

The care of other patients by nursing staff was appalling, especially the elderly on the ward, the nursing staff ignored them at times, until they had wet the bed and then the comments made between staff in front of patients was not professional.
