"Seacole Ward Community Meeting"

About: Forensic mental health

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

During our April community meeting on Seacole Ward we raised the following issues

1. We asked for better clarity on the amount of items we can store on the ward and off the ward

2. Although we have a ward computer it is sometimes difficult to actually get access to it

3. We would like to suggest activities which we would find therapeutic and enjoyable like candle making kits and more pamper resources.

Firstly we have reviewed our property procedure recently within the Wells Road Centre as a result of feedback from patients and to improve our ability to store items safely through a new central storage area.

I can now clarify the following:

Ward Storage: Now includes one box per patient to provide more frequent access to items of property that cannot be stored in either ward sharps or bedrooms

Central Stores: Up to three boxes per patient will be kept in central stores. (Large items which do not fit into a box will be classified as a box).

Excess: Patients with possessions which exceed storage capacity will be encouraged to arrange for them to be kept safely off site or sent out to relatives. As an alternative we will support patients to contact an external storage company.

(We will display this property information on the information board for everyone to see)

Secondly we now have a computer book so that patients can book to use the computer and ensure it is available to all.

Thirdly we will use your comments to improve the current structured day programme.
