"I've got my life back"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Pain management

(as the patient),

Having been refused a referral for three years by my GP surgery on the grounds of costs, I have suffered the most miserable time of my life with debilitating pain. The cocktail of medication not only made my situation worse, must have cost a fortune.

My consultant kicked them into action, a referral was made. Not only was I properly diagnosed by a specialist who knew what he was doing, he explained all the weird scary symptoms to me in a way I could understand which took away the fear factor and came up with a management plan that has not only halved the amount of medication I consumed, but gave me my life back.

No longer do I wake up feeling like I had a night on the tiles, awake all night and drowsy all day, fit for nothing. I can function like a normal human being and enjoy the bits of life that my limitations allow.

I now have got a 'what can I do', instead of 'can't do that attitude' knowing that I was going to be in agony with no control over my life.

Dr Gooneskera, you are my hero.
