What I liked
Nothing worth mentioning!!
What could be improved
Speed of initial assesment in A&E
Ward doctors taking time to discuss issues such as treatment with patients and relatives
Anything else?
A) I dialled 999 at 7.30pm because I suspected my 59 yr old mother was having a stroke. Upon arrival at A&E my mother was left sitting in a wheelchair in the waiting area for nearly 2 hours before being assessed by a doctor. Mum finally went for a CT scan at about 2.30am and it was found that she had suffered a stroke.
B) She was transferred to a ward and seen by the ward doctor later that day whilst I was there visiting. The doctors attitude was very dismissive and provided us with very little and poor quality information about strokes and how it could be treated or prevented from happening again.
C) My mother had suffered a previous stroke in 2004, which has left her with some psychological problems such as depression, anxiety and mood swings. The staff on the ward have failed to recognise this and have subsequently labelled her as being rude and difficult.
I most definately would not recommend Maidstone Hospital for its care of Stroke patients.
