"My Mum has been to see the dermatologist ..."

(as a relative),

What could be improved

My Mum has been to see the dermatologist department for a mole which has been tested and has been found to be cancerous. I understand that in the grand scheme of things my Mum's condition is not a priority however I am greatly disappointed by the delay in treating this. With cancer, no one likes to wait around. My Mum wanted the mole to be removed immediately but the consultant suggested a cream, which for cosmetic reasons would be better. My Mum, whose own Mother died from cancer, said she would much rather just cut the mole out and she didn't mind a scar. Given they were going to cut a piece off for a biopsy anyway, wouldn't it save cost? However she was overruled and after the biopsy results confirmed it was cancerous, my Mum was given a cream to apply which seems to be making the mole worse, and having conducted research I am very concerned about the side effects of the prescribed drug. My Mum would like to see the Dermatologist, having finished the course. However when she has attempted to bring her appointment forward, (which is still a month away) she has been told curtly that she cannot change her appointment unless there is a cancellation, or unless a Doctor makes the request. My Mum doesn't like to be pushy and is still of the generation where her utmost respect for the medical profession means she is disinclined to argue. I think it's a great shame that a rude receptionist is so effective in making vulnerable people feel worse. My Mum has now gone away to worry about it for a month more.
