I gave birth to my son in December 2014 and it really was the care that I received during the process that I need to share. Baby was having problems with his heart rate and I was booked through immediately to the Consultant led unit to induce me. At every step I was informed of what was happening and what they thought the next step would be. I was constantly updated on the progress baby was making and when we were in a bit of trouble there was ample help available from the wider team. What impressed me most was the empathy expressed by all the doctors and nurses, I felt like we were at the centre of everyone's attention. Once baby was safely delivered and we were moved to recovery I was given advice by the midwife on breastfeeding which I was grateful for, this help has stood me in good stead since! The staff on the ward were equally as professional yet friendly. I never had to ask for medication, they were on top of that, they gave advice on feeding baby with bottles, when I was really shaky from blood loss they cared for baby to allow me to get some much needed rest. We were having to do 3-hourly blood glucose tests on baby and when we finally hit our target they were as pleased as I was and celebrated with me. Whenever I had a question they were always happy to help and I learnt a lot from them on basic baby care - a vital tool for this first time mom. The only thing I'd like to say was there seemed to be a shortage of blood pressure monitors that were working properly on the Gloucester Ward. I feel the midwives and support staff could be assisted in making sure all their equipment is regularly tested and repaired as they spent quite a bit of time hunting for a working machine. Overall an excellent experience. I've seen some rather negative feedback here but I can honestly say that I'd recommend this maternity ward and its staff to anyone. My baby and I salute you - you're doing a fantastic job under sometimes difficult circumstances and you did us proud!
"Fantastic care"
