What I liked

I would like to take the opportunity, on behalf of my family, to thank the wonderful people at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for the excellent level of care given to my dad, Harry Forrest, who sadly passed away on Saturday afternoon.

The nurses couldn’t do enough for him. He was treated with charm and dignity at a time of pain, embarrassment and discomfort. The doctors, surgeons and consultants explained everything that they were doing. Dad was fully aware of what was happening throughout his treatment. Mum and I were also kept up to date.

On Saturday, when Dad took a turn for the worse, the doctors and registrar kept us informed by telephone at every stage.

Everything happened so quickly on Saturday that we weren’t at his bedside when he passed away. I would particularly like to thank the theatre staff who administered to him during his final moments and later made us feel so welcome and at ease when we came to see him. They put my dad in a quiet side ward, allowed us as much time as necessary and even made each of us a cup of tea.

We often hear negative publicity about the NHS and treatment of old people at the County. I would just like to put the record straight and once again thank every member of staff, from A&E to the Millennium Wing Level 9a through to the theatre staff.
