"Cardiology waiting times."

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Cardiology (Wards 19, 24, 43a, 43b & 44a)

(as a relative),

My husband has several problems with his heart, he attends GRI as an outpatient.

He had a clinic appointment in April which I had to cancel because he was having joint replacement surgery on the previous week. I telephoned three weeks before the appointment date hoping to get an appointment before he had his surgery but there was no appointments available. He was given the next available appointment which was in October 2015. To have to wait another six months for an appointment is disgraceful.

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Dear Mercedes 2015,

First of all, please accept my apologies that you haven't had a response to your post until now. Although all comments received through Patient Opinion are sent to the relevant service on a monthly basis, I still like to make sure that everyone who writes to us gets a response and so I wanted to make sure I acknowledged your post.

I hope that in the time that has gone by your husband has had both his hip replacement surgery and has seen someone at the Cardiology Clinic. I appreciate the frustration at the length of time until the next available appointment, and it would be really helpful to me if you would consider getting in touch with me directly to let me know what followed your post in terms of this appointment - I.e. was an earlier appointment found for him etc? My email address is lorna.gray@ggc.scot.nhs.uk. It would be really helpful to understand your husband's journey in this way as the appointment system is such an important part of the patient experience, and given that it comes first, can have such an impact on how our services are viewed from then onwards.

I hope that all is well with you and your husband, and apologise again for the delay in responding to you.

Kind Regards,

Lorna
