My son (4 years old) was admitted with suspected Menigitis in April 2015. After 24 hours, my second son was also admitted (4 months old) and despite being very busy and having a "Red Alert" bed situation within the childrens ward, they moved heaven and earth to make sure we could be in the same ward as a family - the alternative was one son in one hospital, the other in another hospital. On the childrens ward, we found the staff to be exceptional. They were helpful, informative, considerate, friendly, approachable. They had all the traits of people you would want close to you in your hours / days of need. My 4 month old son was discharged after 24 hours and they offered an open service for 72 hours, meaning if we were unsure of anything, we could take him immediately to that ward without having to go via A&E. Fantastic! My eldest is still in the ward (day 3) and they have been brilliant with him. Someone left a balloon dog on his pillow whist he went off for an x-ray. We dont know who it was, but thanks - he thought it was great. We cannot fault the staff. From the student nurses to the senior specialists / doctors, they have all given the impression of having highest professionalism and clincal expertise and acted with great care and consideration. It is simply an excellent department and we are delighted to know such services and care is within our local NHS hospital.
