I was terrified of having this procedure! But I need not have worried at all. From start to finish the care I received from the surgeon and team was superb; the staff were truly exceptional. The whole process was efficient, professional and very caring - During the procedure there were minimal staff there and everyone was so friendly and reassuring, it was a very relaxed atmosphere, but at the same time totally professional. (And they were obviously aware how how nervous I was). My dignity was maintained at all times - although my dressing gown was removed, I was fully covered with a blanket. I was told beforehand what was to happen and what I might experience. One nurse stayed by me telling me what was happening and I could even watch it on the screen! I had been given a light sedative, but felt no pain or discomfort whatsoever. I was included in everything and totally a part of what was going on, it was very very centred around me as an individual. In the recovery room where I received 1-to-1 care which went beyond what was expected. I had mentioned in passing that the day before I had had fasting blood sugars taken and the care assistant decided to do a blood glucose test just to check all was fine. I was extremely impressed with the care given during the recovery phase - the staff were just superb. I was only allowed home with my next of kin when they were satisfied I was fine. So, if anyone else is worrying about this procedure I hope that this may allay fears. I was treated exceptionally well, the care was superb and I have nothing negative whatsoever to say about the whole experience
