"Sometimes a Dr needs to listen to the patient."
About: Newark Hospital Newark Hospital Newark NG24 4DE
I had to be seen urgently on a Friday afternoon as I have recently moved to the area and had not yet registered with a dentist. I had an gum abscess developing and as a non-driving epileptic was unable to access the only emergency service available in Sutton in Ashfield. Now I understand that doctors receive no training in dentistry. I was seen first by a very competent nurse who agreed with me that Metronidazole was the required antibiotic, I was then sent to wait for the Dr. Now I understand that the Dr. was miffed that I was there but the collapse of NHS dentistry is not something that a patient should be held responsible for. The Dr. was reluctant to prescribe at all and refused the Metronidazole instead opting for Amoxycillin, thrice daily for five days. I advised the Dr. that this would not work but for no justifiable clinical reason I was refused the Metronidazole and here I am today with one day left of the Penicillin course to run and I still cannot get an appointment for ten days and the problem is back!. This will now mean another NHS prescription, further costs to the service. I have never complained about an NHS service before, I know how hard you guys works but the sheer arrogance of the Dr. has enraged me, there was no clinical justification for refusing the Metronidazole, the nurse knew it was the correct choice, I knew it was the correct choice but because I was a slightly annoying presence a medical professional with a medical degree chose to behave in this way.
