About: Southampton General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Difficult to find anything , the friend I am visiting has become significantly lower in spirits with every passing day

What could be improved

Communication - no bed available despite a phone call to check ; doctor did not make direct contact until 48 hours had elapsed; nurses unaware of pre existing condition; doctor uncommunicative and not responding to questions; surgeon ignored patient despite lack of pain relief; nurse offered the chance to go to Mass then forgot to let anyone know; toilets not cleaned on ward for days; food inedible ; wrong medication given ; wrong dosage of correct medicine given ;nurses generally unhelpful ; nurses not responding to calls ; waiting over an hour and a half for pain relief ;

Anything else?

My friend is a quietly spoken generous person and has spent the greater part of her stay caring for an elderly patient in her ward.The women sharing the bay have fed this woman, called for assistance when the alarms are ignored ; prevented her from falling out of bed and sat with her comforting her . On one occasion i have seen visitors assisting her in the absence of staff
