"I like the way I am treated in ..."

About: Southampton General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I like the way I am treated in the GI centre when I attend as an outpatient, Every six months. The Doctors and Nurses are always pleasant and polite.

The ones that I see anyway.

They make me feel as though I AM important and not just a number which I have felt in the past in lots of other hospitals.

What could be improved

Cleanliness in General of the waiting area.

Nurses to use the hand Gel rules correctly.

WAITING TIME!!!!!!

EVERY time I go to the hospital I have to wait about 2 hrs for my appointment.

This is NOT the DOCTORS OR NURSES FAULT, I must add, they seem very embarrased at having to apologize every time for the delay or wait!!

AMINISTRATION get your act together, a lot of these patients may be outpatients but they are VERY SICK people and to sit in a waiting room 2 hours past your appointment time with oxygen bottles around you with people coughing and sneezing all over you is not fun!!

The chairs are not exactly comfortable either for people that have disabilities!!

The toilets are not very clean either.

Anything else?

I have not had any problems with staff at all BUT I REALLY get annoyed with the ADMIN of the hospital or the Management team!!

HOW THIN do you want to spread your medical staff? THEY are the ones who get the backlash from patients about waiting times!! No wonder sometimes they can seem short an impatient, they are trying to do a great job with LOUSY ADMIN support!! The waiting times are so long because the DOCTORS AND NURSES DO take their job seriously an do not RUSH patients through, but to expect a DOCTOR to cover for other Doctors with their own patients as well in THE SAME TIME frame is ridiculous!

"I have a terminal illness Doctor I understand you can only see me for 7minutes or 10 minutes that is all your given thats ok!"

This is BAD management!!!! NOT THE DOCTORS FAULT, SOUTHAMPTON is one of the worst waiting time problems I have EVER come across.
