"Discomfort of long wait at DRI"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Urology

(as the patient),

I had a gall bladder removal at Doncaster Hospital, and stayed on Ward 21on arrival, then moved to M4. Everything was very well explained before surgery by the consultant. However, the times of arrival on ward could have been better arranged. I was asked to arrive at 8am and didn't go into theatre until 2.40pm.

I don't think the timing was very good. Time of arrival on ward 21 fr 8 am, arrived early 7.40am. At approx. 9am I had a meeting with the anaesthetist and then the consultant. I was then moved to the Woman's Hospital and Ward M4. At 2.20pm I was wheeled down to theatre and entered at 2.40pm.

My only grumble was I hadn't eaten since 10.30pm and had my last drink at 11.30pm the previous evening. As I have a silent reflux problem which makes me cough when I don't drink, this caused me some discomfort, due to the long wait before surgery.

I stayed in overnight as I live alone, and my after care up to leaving was second to none.

I would like to thank the theatre staff, who were very caring. I didn't feel nervous at all. I couldn't have wished for more.
