"A&E (Attentive and Efficient) Well done:) - AMU..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

I was referred to a&e as an emergency admission. The a&e staff were all without exception "simply the best". My wife who has worked for the nhs for years and has a passion and respect for it, was so proud of the staff and the service provided. Well done and thank you all. Amu was my next port of call. The wards/rooms were very clean, neat and tidy and the staff friendly and in most cases accommodating. However when I requested the simplest of things one pillow, (none on the bed) the nursing attendant did their very best and eventually found one. There appeared to be a shortage?? I also had gone through my tablets with the pharmacy staff and double checked everything was detailed correctly (dosage and strength) with them and again ran through the same with the nursing staff on duty. I stressed one particular one was required 30 minutes before I ate and this was noted. I managed to have it in time at lunch but tea this did not happen. Finally, at the night before retiring I was brought another tablet which I did not normally take at this time. When I enquired were my night tablet x 2 was (and advised the reason I should have them) I was advised my record only indicated I have that tablet 3 times a day (morning, lunch and evening meal) and I was not given the prescription... This delay could have affected my initial condition. Since I have been discharged I have been advised I could request I wanted to self medicate (something I was not aware of). Hopefully there will not be a 2nd return visit to amu so I will not be enforcing this choice. Sorry amu I cannot afford you 5 stars. Cleanliness 5 stars staff co-operation 3.5 stars dignity and respect 3 stars involvement in decisions 3 stars same-sex accommodation 5 stars

Thank you for leaving your comment regarding your visit to the Accident and Emergency department and the Acute Medical Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital. We are pleased the majority of service you received was good but we are sorry that you were disappointed with your care on AMU We will forward your comment to the department managers to share with the rest of the team.
