"nothing at all"

About: Southampton General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

nothing at all

What could be improved

clean hospital. communication between doctors and other doctors. doctors telling patients whats going on.

Anything else?

I am really gobsmacked with the way the hospital is run. My niece has been in hospital for a month now on and off. She first went in with hip pains and eventually got put on ward G4. This ward was filthy. She then started having mild fits when this happened nobody was informed. (so much for patient care). Another night she was in bed crying in pain and the nurse just said be quiet and pull yourself together(again poor patient care). After about a week she was sent home no explanation what was wrong. As soon as she got home she was rushed back by ambulance. She was kept in for another week or two so they could do tests. we were told she had brain scan by 4 doctors and another 1 said she hadnt so we are still none the wiser. She was then sent home again still no explanation. She was home for a couple of days and then she started having trouble breathing so again an ambulance was called. Paramedics said they cant believe she was sent home. After 5 hours waiting at the hospital we saw a doctor who just said you can go home and if it happens again just take ibuprofen(its a joke). Is it a hospital or a circus i ask myself. I am utterly disgusted.

Andy: We are sorry to hear that your niece and your family appear to have had such a negative experience that does not reflect the high standards we set for ourselves. We have passed your concerns on to the staff of G4 and the lead matron for child health, but we would very much like you to get in touch with us directly so that we can communicate directly with you and your family and investigate the specific matters in more detail. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service by email on pals@suht.swest.nhs.uk or 023 8079 8498.
