"It does what it says on the tin!"

About: Lister Hospital

I was very satisfied with my recent experience at the Lister hospital and feel compelled to give some feedback. I had to go in for a bronchoscopy which is basically a camera stuck up my nose and down my throat into my lungs - nice! The procedure had been clearly explained in the pre- operation information I had been sent so I knew it wasn't going to be a pleasant experience and to be honest it was worse than I anticipated ( a bit like childbirth really!) However it was all clearly explained to me when I arrived and during the procedure. Everybody was kind and considerate and I felt that I was treated with dignity despite the unpleasant nature of the operation. They worked fast and it was all over very quickly. The post- operative care was good too with nurses continually coming to check on me and to bring me something to eat and drink. After an hour or so I started to feel better and was allowed to go home an hour or two later ( exactly as explained in the leaflet). One of the best aspects of this was the kind person who came in before the operation to ask me if I would like gentle touch therapy before I went in. I said that sounded very nice and they were all set to do it. However things moved fast and I was called straight in so they came in with me. They gently touched my head, shoulders, knees and feet and I felt very relaxed but it didn't last long once the procedure started. It was only afterwards when I thought back to it all that I realised they had held my hand the whole time and how important it is to have someone to do that, otherwise the operating room can seem like a very lonely place. I can not remember their name but I would like to thank them in particular. I would also like to thank all the other staff who were involved. In these times of constant criticism of the NHS it is nice to be able to be positive about my local hospital.

Thank you for getting in touch and letting us know how much you appreciated the care and attention that you received from our respiratory team colleagues, to whom we have sent on your feedback. You're right, having a bronchoscopy is always going to be an unpleasant experience, and it was great to see that the team did everything they could to make it more bearable. Hope everything continues to go well for you.
