What I liked

New ward and toys for my son to play with along with a play specialist

What could be improved

My wife and I had to stay with our 5yrs old for 9 days while he was being treated. As he was in pain he could not be left alone. There was no provisions to feed or water us. As parents they need to be supported during this time. When children eat with their mother or father this gives a sense of normality to the situation and will relax them. I don't expect free meals but a choice to buy food would have been expected. I did not expect to have to wait until my wife came to take over from me before I could get some food. As we have other children it would be a good 18 hours before we could eat or drink anything hot.

Anything else?

some of the nurses were very harsh when giving my son his medication. They knew the meds were hurting but telling my son "now it doesn't hurt that much" while he was screaming due to the pain just caused more trauma to my wife. Children are not small adults and if they are scared then they need to be relaxed not told off!!

Some of the other nurses had patients and time for him which relaxed him and the sitauation went a little smoother.
