"wi came in to hospital on mon ..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

wi came in to hospital on mon 27th july for a pre op asssesment for my total knee replacement at 10am i was seen by the preop asswsment nurse on time for checkup which was fine then told to wait to see pre op nurse this didnot hapen until 1145am (rediculous !!!!!)but anyway this was fine asked lots of questions and then told i need an ecg (why???) i have no problems with my heart with any other operations (of which ive had several on my wrist and knee) anyway this i was told was all clear by the cardiologist who did the test so we finally went home at 2pm (4 hrs for a pre op which used to take 1hr at haslar) then the next day i was called by the preeop nurse to be told there WAS a problem with my heart and she was CANCELLING my operation due to be on the 5th august until 28th october!!!! because they need to do further tests to find out the problem and that i need further tests which will be on the 30th july and 3rd august which would be hand delivered to my house by her as they are concered which is ridiculous as far as im concerned you dont cancel an operation before you know if there is a problem she didnt give me any information apart from this which is quite disconcerting as a patient to be told they have a heart condition when they dont have any symptons of this and there operation is cancelled even though there doing these tests asap before the operation but no they cancel it anyway without any evidence i feel these are just stalling tactics as the hospital is not ready and i think they where not ready and sent me for extra tests to cover themselves as i dont think i have a problem and now theses tests have been performed the ecg and the echcocardiogram both of the people who did these test told me they where clear and there wasnt a problem the echocardiogram was performed by a warrant officer who i felt was quite senior in his professsion told me there was no a problem with my heart and didnt understand why if my ecg was fine as to why i had to do this

What could be improved

test which confused me all the more so i then phoned the PALS advice service and spoke to suzie who tried to find out what was going on and was promised calls back (which never hapened!!) from the people concerned i did eventally get a call back from an aneithetist on friday morning who said there was a problem with my heart and that if they did my operation i could die on the table (even though everyone else had said the tests were clear) she then said i need to do these other tests to clarify if this is the case and if there wasnt a problem then she would get me in for my operation in the next week and that she would get this rushed through and call me tuesday morning with the outcome.

I have now had my treadmill test done and was told i would get the result from my doctor in 2 weeks time!!! again not what i have been told and am still trying to sort this out i have spoken to every department involved and no one will give me an answer as to what is going on these people need to talk to each other as the left hand doesnt know what the right is doing !! i was called back today (03/08/09) by an aneithetist who told me i had seen a heart surgeon when i havent!! and to go through the details again of what had happened so far which i did and she said she would look into it!!! so i am getting no where fast

Anything else?

I have since had a call back from julie at PALS who said the anethitist i spoke to friday (31st july) wil be calling me back tuesday to let me know the results as promised so now i will wait and see what happens next.

Very bad service from a new hospital and i would not recommend it after the service ive had before even having my operation!!!
