"Emergency assessment due to GP referral"

About: Colchester General Hospital

My elderly Aunt (Aged 88), was sent to the hospital by her GP following a blood test the same morning which showed she was suffering from quite severe anaemia. The ambulance arrived promptly and the staff were pleasant and helpful. On arrival at the hospital there was no bay available but we were told she would be found a space as soon as possible, which turned out to be only about 20 minutes. All the nursing staff were kind and treated her with dignity, explaining what would be done. She was thoroughly assessed by a junior doctor, who then reported back to hheir senior. The consultant fed back results and opinions clearly and gave appropriate treatment (prescription) with advice for follow up tests, before giving the option to stay overnight or go home, she chose the latter! Our whole experience was the best possible, the staff were extremely busy, but nothing was too much trouble. This hospital deserves to receive some good press for a change.
