"Absolutely first rate care from ..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Absolutely first rate care from the Consultant and his orthopaedic team, following a leg and ankle injury. I was seen by a member of the orthopaedic staff within 10 minutes of arriving with the paramedic, and this set the tone for the whole of my care at QA. Every member of staff with whom I had contact was helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable, and each person I encountered made me feel involved in the treatment of my injury. The Consultant has done a fantastic job on my leg, and his team of nurses, plaster room staff, and radiographers have all contributed to my recovery. The staff in the Trauma Admission Bay and in D3 ensured that all patients received a very high level of care, and the cleaning staff were ceaseless in their pursuit of spotlessness! In as much as a nasty leg injury can be, this was a very positive experience. I was very apprehensive about having to go to QA because of the poor reputation it had some years ago, but I would now not hesitate to recommend the orthopaedic department and A & E to anyone.

What could be improved

Not having the fracture clinic so far from the entrance in the new hospital. It's a long lurch on crutches!

Anything else?

Could someone please ensure that the drop off and pick up bays outside the main entrance are used for just that purpose, and are not perpetually full of parked taxis? It would also be lovely if someone could enforce the 'NO SMOKING' policy outside the main entrance.
