"From start to finish I could not fault anyone"

About: Birmingham and the Black Country Birmingham Community Assessment & Treatment Service Good Hope Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

I took my aunt to see her doctor, Dr Sheikh at the Poplar Surgery in Erdington, on Wednesday as I suspected she had a DVT. The GP promptly called out the rapid response team and sent my aunt home to wait for the team to see her at home.

The team arrived after about three hours and were excellent. The lady, I think her name was Tricka, did a finger prick test which came out positive, because of this she gave my aunt an injection and explained in detail what would happen next. We were told she would be referring my aunt to the Good Hope Hospital for a scan, in the meantime she would receive daily injections to manage the DVT. She would be dropping off the referral papers to the Good Hope Hospital herself.

My aunt’s treatment was exactly as Tricka had explained, two days after the visit to the GP my aunt had a scan at the hospital and was then sent to ambulatory care. Here we had a very long wait but the hospital have made provisions to ensure patients and carers are comfortable. My aunt was given a sandwich at lunchtime and carers were able to make use of the tea and coffee making facilities provided. When she was seen by the doctor here the examination and explanations given were very, very thorough

From start to finish I could not fault anyone, I was more than satisfied with the treatment at every level.

Good Morning!

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments regarding your Aunt's experience at Good Hope Hospital for her scan and treatment in Ambulatory Care. This is a great example of how well Community and Hospital Services work seamlessly to ensure the right investigations and treatment are carried out promptly to avoid an unnecessary hospital admission.

I sincerely hope that your Aunt is recovering well at home and I will ensure that our Radiology Service and Ambulatory Care Team are made aware of your feedback.

Please let us know if we can be of any other assistance.

Kind Regards

Marie Helebert

Dear Ms /Mr Maguire, Thank you for your positive feedback. We are trying very hard to get the?DVT pathway better and slicker for patients. We have recently increased the staffing for our ambulatory care unit to reduce the waiting time. I will pass this on to the ambulatory team, I am sure they will be very pleased. Dr Arne Rose
