"Thank you seems so inadequate"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency NHS 111 South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

Thank you seems so inadequate but I can think of no other words to express my gratitude to the 999 operator and paramedics who came to attend to my son last Friday.

We were at my Father’s house when my son’s behavior caused alarm. It was later that I found out that this was due to an epileptic fit. When I called 999 the person I spoke to was fantastic, she asked me to give her information about my son – I was in such a state that even simple observations eg was he breathing seemed impossible for me. She remained very calm and explained how I should check for this and other signs. She stayed, and kept me, on the phone until the first responder car arrived, followed by an ambulance.

All the paramedics were fabulous, taking care of my son, and my Father and I, in our state of shock and panic. My son was taken to the Gloucester Royal Hospital where they put in motion the further treatment my son will need.

Whilst all the medical teams were lovely my absolute thanks go to the 999 operator who helped me to hold myself together in my panic.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I hope your son is feeling much better now.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients, ad those around them, when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto the 999 call taker who supported you, and ambulance crew who came to your aid. Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and address that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify the staff involved and ensure they are recognised for the care they gave.

Please quote your Patient Opinion user name Just129 in your contact.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards
