"I was a patient on C5 and found ..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was a patient on C5 and found the nursing staff to be very caring and profesional. They have so much to do on such a big ward but i found they always had time for me and give me the best care possible, and would go out of their way to make my time on the ward as comfortable as they could.

What could be improved

As fantastic as the nurses were they were incredibly understaffed with at times only 2 nurses on at a time for a 26 bed ward. I would at times have to wait hours for my medication and due to the nature of my condition this could have been potenially dangerous. There was only 1 Doctor on duty on the Saturday who i had to wait a very long time to see and then they failled to canulate me and then left me for a further 3 hours with no iv access for my anti biotics ( i had scepticemia and a PE ) they were rude to both myself and my Husband and i believe my Husband then made a complaint about the lack of care. The nurses do a fantastic job but it is unfair to put the pressure of understaffing on them. More staff is needed immediatly before patients die due to lack of medical staff.
