"They all made a big difference"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

So far I have had three children and the birth of my daughter has by far been the most positive experience.

Despite my daughter being born 4 weeks early by emergency cesarean section I can honestly say this was a positive experience. The consultant who decided on an early delivery was amazing - listened to my history and made the decision that other doctors had been avoiding. The midwife who remained with me all night and into the early hours of the morning was truly an absolute pillar of strength for me!

After the birth unfortunately my daughter had to be admitted to the NICU which was a heart wrenching time for me. All the staff in both the maternity ward and NICU were so kind, considerate and respectful which helped me cope with the turmoil and emotions that come along with that situation.

The care my daughter received whilst in the neonatal unit was outstanding. I hated her being there but I can honestly say that each time I left the unit to go back to the ward I knew that she was being well cared for.

Compared to the birth of my both my sons (in a different hospital) this birth was the most positive I've had. Simple things like: the consultant offering to lower the curtain so I could see my daughter being born; having a named midwife stay with me; and the staff ensuring that I got to visit my daughter in the NICU as soon as I was physically well enough too.

They all made a big difference and I would like to thank all the staff for this.
