"I got the date for the procedure ..."

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I got the date for the procedure very promptly- within 2-3 weeks. The ward where my son was treated was very well equipped and had lovely nurses train to deal with children (5stars).

What could be improved

Consultant doctors wore their private clothes on the ward among children who just had an operation. This can easily spread infections! Due to lack of commnunication beteween the op block and ward my child did not get the pain relief. Always check what you were given!

Response from Royal Berkshire Hospital

In line with the majority of healthcare providers, doctors generally wear their own clothes when visiting patients on the wards; however, they are expected to use disposable gloves and aprons if they undertake aseptic procedures such as assessing wounds or caring for patients with infections.

At all other times our doctors are expected to clean their hands before and after contact with any patient or their immediate environment as this is the most important practice in relation to preventing the spread of infection.
