"Couldn't have done more to help us"

About: Colchester General Hospital

My husband attended A and E at Colchester General, having been taken by ambulance following an angina attack at home. At all times he was treated with dignity and respect, initially having 1-2-1 nursing from an agency nurse in A and E majors, then a Dr and the consultant in the EAU. Staff were helpful and patient, the nurses in EAU were always asking if there was anything he needed. Every step of the process was explained to us, including an indication of the time it would take. After a very different experience of the EAU last year when my husband was left without bedding, food or medication, for over 8 hours I was fearful of going to Colchester but this time the experience was totally different. It is obvious that a lot of work has gone into improving the process and also updating the facilities. Nothing is ever perfect but it is clear that staff morale has risen considerably, patients are no longer treated as inconveniences and communication with patients and their relatives is exemplary. My husband was discharged at the end of the day with medication and clear instructions of what he has to do next. Thank you for your expertise and kindness.
