Melton Mowbray Hospital is a valuable asset to the town, and the community should be very proud that we have such a facility. However, can only be as good as the people who work in it. I attended the above clinic today and came away feeling less than satisfied. The care I received from the doctor was excellent- I had no problems with that. Sadly I did not feel the same way about the health care assistant who was present. I felt the HCA was not intuitive regarding the doctor's needs when the doctor was setting up to give me a steroid injection-in fact the HCA seemed completely disinterested in the proceedings. The doctor had to ask for a table on which they could arrange his equipment. This was not available so the HCA suggested the doctor use a trolley which had various items placed on it. After a moments pause when nothing happened, the doctor removed the items themself and wheeled the trolley into position. I commented to the HCA that the trolley could do with a good scrub, they then informed me that all trolleys were washed down each morning but they get splashed with use! The HCA then covered the trolley with disposable paper roll (presumably they thought this was good enough to create a sterile field), and returned the roll of paper to the floor!! I welcome your comments please on this situation and also on HCA training. Thankyou.
