"I attended the X-ray department; ..."

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I attended the X-ray department; the receptionist was friendly and gave me an accurate forecast about the likely wait.

What could be improved

1) All the chairs in the waiting area outside the X-ray suites were low and mostly without arms - not good for people like me with bad backs.

2) An elderly patient who was pushed out of a suite on a trolley requested a glass of water and was told she would get one on return to her ward.

3)The porter approached the trolley from behind and altered the rake of the back without warning clearly startling the patient; it would have taken only a very few moments to go round to the side, say 'hello' and that he was about to take her back.

Anything else?

Clearly these are not serious complaints but as an ex-Communith Health Council member with, in general, a very high opinion of RHCH,I tend to have my antennae pricked when in the hospital. The porter's lack of courtesy is perhaps a training issue and maybe the refusal of water is a matter of protocol - in case she was 'nil by mouth' but again the refusal might have been more polite.
