"I had to visit A&E early one ..."

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had to visit A&E early one morning. It was quiet and peaceful which was somewhat calming, since it was my first ever visit to A&E for myself and I was by myself, being a student away from home and obviously very worried. I was seen quickly by a triage nurse and then by a doctor and my visit to A&E was over in about 3 hours. The areas that I visited were very clean and tidy and staff were patient and understanding.

What could be improved

The follow-up procedures were not very good. I had to fit my out-patients appointments around my university work (as I was in the midst of my final exams and rehearsals) and I found that the appointments secretary was not very sympathetic to my individual needs. When I had to rearrange an appointment, I was rarely recontacted with a new appointment date and time which resulted in my condition getting worse. I eventually had to move home to continue my treatment as the added stress of the complications recieved with follow up appointments and not getting treated made my illness worse.

Anything else?

The staff are always friendly and cooperative.
