I recently moved to this area. The Warfarin Clinic to which I had been going for some years was in a large hospital. The actual waiting room was shabbily furnished and had to accommodate people attending for blood tests on GP or Hospital Ward referral as well as Warfarin. It was dingy and so overcrowded you often waited in the corridor. The system involved attending at a specific time to have your blood sample taken. After booking in at reception ( a queue to do that) It was not unusual to wait for 45 to 60 minutes beyond the appointed time. A full syringe of blood was taken. The phial of blood was then sent to the lab and you received a form with your reading plus the next appointment date in the post within 48 hours. Amersham is a revelation. Bright, quiet, uncrowded, lovely staff. The system involves a date but no specific time to attend; on arrival just take a tag with the next number and sit down in a clean and comfortable area. The longest wait up to now is 5 minutes. On being called your details are brought up on the computer. The blood sample is a painless finger prick, the spot of blood is analysed there and then. According to the result you get the next date for attending. All handled in a pleasant manner by the staff. Well done Amersham!!!
