What I liked
My mum was admiited to the JR in March following a stroke and has now been a patient on the Stroke Unit for 13 weeks. I cannot praise the nurses, physio's, occupational therapists, speach therapists and Dr's who have been caring for her hightly enough. She has been treated with dignity and compassion throughout her stay.. This week whilst I was visiting her with my dad, he colasped in the shop and his heart stopped beating. Once the alarm had been raised a team of Dr's and nurses were there instantly and thankfully managed to resusitate him. One nurse in particular was so supportive to me as I stood by watching them "bring him back to life". I was so frightened by what was happening to him but she was so reassuring and was a great comfort to me. Whilst he was being attended to in the resusutation room, one of the nurses came down from the stroke ward to be with me until my brother arrived and then later on my mum's Dr came in to see how my dad was and also how I was coping. I have been overwhelmed by how supportive everyone has been to me during what has been a very traumatic week for me. Thankfully my dad is now on the road to recovery and this is all due to the the fact that the resususitation team got to him so quickly. He is still in hospital waiting to have a defibrilating pacemaker fitted which will hopefully prevent this from ever happening to him again.
What could be improved
As I said above - I cannot fault the care both my mum and dad have, and are continuing to receive.
Anything else?
Without the skill off all the staff involved with the care my parents I could have lost them both. It is difficult for me to convey in such as few words the gratitude I have for all these members of staff but one thing for sure is, I will never forget what they have done for my family.
