"Fracture clinic (Departments don't know what the..."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Had an appointment at the fracture clinic that the Urgent Care Unit in the same hospital organised for me for my frozen shoulder. My appointment was at 9.25am and I eventually got seen at around 10.40am only to be told that they can't do anything in that department for it and that they will send a letter to my GP so that they can organise for me to go somewhere else. So basically I had to take a night off work and wait over an hour after my appointment time to be told they can't do anything there and go back to my GP who will book me in a different department. Do the different departments in this hospital not have a clue what the other departments can and can't do? Also to top it off, when I first went into the Urgent Care Unit, I went in with a problem with my shoulder and came out with a virus and ended up having a week off work because of it. I haven't heard one good thing about this hospital but I always give things a chance for myself. Unfortunately now though I have experienced it myself.

Dear Mr Duckworth Many thanks for your feedback on your experience of our Urgent Care Centre at Royal Blackburn Hospital and the fracture clinic, and thank-you for taking the time to do so. I am sorry to hear that your recent visit to us felt mismanaged and I will make sure your comments are passed onto the teams concerned. I am also sorry to hear you subsequently had a virus after visiting us, but unsure where this may have been acquired as cleanliness in the Emergency department areas is of high concern to every member of staff there. Could you possibly get in contact with me directly on the details below so that I can try and track where this may have happened? Also, if you would like to talk through your visit to us with one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand the bits of your experience that made this such a poor visit for you we would really value this so that we can try to make improve the care we deliver to every patient visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk. Or if you would like to share your experience in confidence with an independent organisation please contact Healthwatch BwD on 01254 504985 or info@healthwatchblackburnwithdarwen.co.uk Many thanks again for commenting and best wishes on your recovery Wendy Stobbs, Senior Patient Experience Facilitator
