"Visit to A&E for broken ankle"

My mother was taken in to A&E last week for a broken ankle. Although it was lunch time on a weekday the it still took over six hours for her to be seen by a doctor. Although she was in obvious pain she was not offered a wheelchair and was required to hobble to and fro from A&E to radiology to get xrayed. Once she got there it turned out that she had been given the paperwork for an entirely different patient so she had to hobble back to A&E to collect her own paperwork. During the time it took her to get back and forth only one member of staff asked if she was alright or offered to help her in anyway. Only once I arrived a few hours after she had been brought in was I able to find her a wheelchair. Having visited a fair few A&Es around Yorkshire I was a little shocked at the conditions there. There were bloody wound dressings on the floor in the waiting room which weren't picked up for quite some time, but the worst thing were the rats scurrying around outside the main hospital entrance. I saw two, and other people waiting also commented on them. On the up side, once she was seen she was quickly potted up and taken to a ward. Whilst on the ward she was given excellent care by the nurses and the Occupational Therapists were terrific too. She was finally discharged about 12 hours after first going in.
