"Parent led event as part of their Social Enterprise Qualification, Level 1 course"

About: Ollerton & Boughton Children's Centre

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Eight parents recently enrolled onto a Social Enterprise Qualification (SEQ) Level 1.

As part of the course; they learned skills to plan a fund raising event for Ollerton and Boughton Children Centre, with aim of booking a summer day-trip to Skegness for families of the community.

The course covered many areas such as planning; advertising; promoting; building business skills; team work skills; as well as soft skills of building confidence and self esteem.

On 9th April, the parent-led fundraising event took place and was supported by Sure Start Centre staff.

Parents organised tombola; face painting; craft activities; bric-a-brac; 'guess the name of the soft toys' game; bouncy castle; food and soft drinks and cake stall and invited other stall holders to attend.

The Fire Brigade and local Community Police team attended too; both invited by the parents.

The event was a great success, with good weather and parents raised a total of £370 for their first ever event; resulting in a coach being booked for the Summer day-trip to Skegness in August.

Here is the feedback given from the day:

It certainly was a great day with over 70 families joining us. The parent volunteers have worked so hard over a period of 10 weeks, not only arranging the fundraising event but also completing their portfolios in order to achieve a level one qualification.

The fundraising amount is currently at £400 which is fantastic! We will be holding a celebration event later in the month to recognise the volunteer's achievements and put plans into place for the trip to Skegness in August.

We will be using the feedback from families on the day to plan any future activities. A big thank you to all involved.
