"Lack of facilities advertised"

About: Erith & District Hospital

Although the Urgent Care Centre is advertised as having a facility for checking for breaks and sprains, they do not, in fact, have an x-ray department at weekends and bank holidays. When questioned why this was, the response was that the x-ray department is run by a different provider so that facility is not open at the same time as the Urgent Care Centre - this is not mentioned in all the online sites that I have looked at. When going to the department for help, we were told that if an xray was needed, we would have to go to Queen Mary's in Sidcup. All very well if you have the transportation to get there. This is disgraceful - you either provide a complete service or you don't. How many people must come along to discover that they should have gone somewhere else in the first place? I understand that the Urgent Care Centre is run by the Hurley Group. It would be interesting to know what funding they receive from the NHS and whether that funding is supposed to support facilities that include xray and other things for the times the Centre is actually open or if these facilities have been cut in order to save funds or make a profit?

The Hurley are the clinical providers at the Urgent Care Centre in Erith hospitall but not of the x-ray facility located on the other side of the complex. This is managed by Dartford & Gravesham Trust and historically has run Mon-Fri only. We all appreciate it must have been very frustrating to only find this out when you attended the site and have asked D&G to amend the entry on their web site and that of NHS Choices. We are also referring to the timings on our sites and have posters in the waiting room and we can only apologise for any inconvenience." Debbie Maxted - Regional Manager Urgent Care The Hurley Group
