My mother is currently an in patient on Buckland Ward, having attended A+E as an emergency, transferring to SAU and then to Buckland. She was critically ill and throughout her entire journey both she and the family have received excellent care. My father is quite disabled and all staff continue to be very considerate of his needs at this time. I myself am a Matron and I have been very impressed with Buckland Ward, even over the bank holiday my mum was treated promptly and appropriately at all times. From the ITU team, the surgical team, the nursing staff, porters and the housekeeping staff all have been kind, caring and undertook their roles with expertise. They have all had the time and concern to explain everything fully to both my mum, my dad and myself all at the different levels that we have needed. The ward has been extremely busy and quite noisy at times with a lot of comings and goings but despite this the staff have maintained a cheerful, hard working and compassionate approach. I myself work in an environment that is subject to CQC scrutiny and I would have to say that using the current Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive guidelines I feel that Buckland in particular would warrant an outstanding judgement. It is difficult for me to comment on well led but from what I witnessed all staff seemed to have a common purpose and to be well trainined and competent in their roles.
"excellent care at a very difficult time"
