"A&E after suspected stroke"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

I was taken to A@E from work, witnessed by paramedic a TIA. The first response team in stroke bit was very efficient , but after not finding any abnormality on CT scan was told if I can walk I can go home. I on,y took 3 steps and walked into a SATS machine at that! Was sent home and told I would be fine in a few days. After 2 weeks I still had no movement in my left side of my body. Went to GP who organised MRI scan and medication to prevent a further stroke. Nothing found on MRI scan with it being 3&half weeks later. So now 5 months on I still cannot walk unaided, have had to self refer for help and buy my own wheelchair etc. had an appointment to see neurology in month 6, now been told my appointment has been moved another 2 and half months backwards.... I feel very let down as I may not be getting the correct help I need due to still waiting for a vital neurology appointment as can't be fully treated for a stroke just on case neurology think it could be something else I have! Life's on a standstill regards recovery nearly 8 months wait for a maybe diagnosis.....

Response from Chesterfield Royal Hospital

I was really saddened to read about your experience here at the hospital and over the last few months. I am sorry to read that you feel let down and that you may not be getting the help you need. You must be feeling very anxious about this on-going situation. It would help if we could talk to you about your care. I am presuming you will have been referred to neurology at Sheffield (their consultants hold clinics here) and perhaps we need to have a look into this for you as well. It's difficult to do so from the details here because your post is anonymous. Would you be able to make contact with our complaints and assistance service so they can talk to you and liaise with our clinical teams on your behalf? They are open Monday to Friday 9am-4pm and are on 01246 512640. I hope you get in touch at the earliest opportunity - with kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint, Head of Communications
