"Still waiting for surgery 3 months after maximum..."

About: James Paget University Hospital

I'm currently on the waiting list for surgery which was supposed to have been undertaken in January 2015 at the latest. I'm still waiting and everytime I ring up I'm told the operation will be the next month or the month after, but I'm not given a date. I also got in touch with the PALS team about the delays but was told that the 18 week maximum wait was just a guideline and not a legal limit, which isn't true. They were no help whatsoever in finding and alternative pathway and I've essentially had to put any plans I have for the year on hold as I obviously don't want to refuse the operation date when I finally get one.

I am really sorry to see your comments. We have had some recent challenges in achieving the targets for our patients to be seen within 18 weeks due to the emergency demand and unfortunately this has led to us having to cancel some operations. We are currently writing to those patients who have been waiting longer than 12 weeks to offer them the opportunity to be treated elsewhere in line with their NHS Constitutional rights. If you were able to get in touch with your details, we could look at your individual case. I look forward to hearing from you. Ann Filby, Head of Communications (ann.filby@jpaget.nhs.uk)
