Five years ago I transferred to Maidstone Hospital after a terrifying experience at my local health authority, (who are now in special measures - deservedly so). I was very low psychologically because of what I had been through and terrified about what I still had to come to terms with. I had breast cancer surgery at Maidstone and felt safe and cared for. All the staff and nurses at the Peggy Wood Breast Care Centre are amazing and the result of my mastectomy and reconstruction is truly excellent. I recently needed to have my breast implant replaced and was cared for by a Consultant whose patience, kindness and care is exemplary. I was a day patient and each department I came into contact with and every person concerned with my care deserves a medal, from the pre-assessment the week before, to the staff at discharge. They were all kind, compassionate, understanding and so very patient centred. Each member of staff takes their job seriously and does it well and efficiently, working as a team. The hospital is spotless and very pleasant to be in. The short stay surgical ward is peaceful and welcoming and I was well fed when I felt up to eating. Whilst I was having the operation, my husband was sitting somewhere reading his book, and twice members of hospital staff approached him and enquired if he was OK or was there any way they could assist him? No-one could wish for better than Maidstone Hospital - this is truly the NHS at its' best. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else for treatment and I tell everyone all about it! Heartfelt thanks to everyone.
