I am currently using a care package from the hospital following an operation on my back. The whole experience from my GP’s referral to the operation taking place has been excellent – it took just weeks, not months as I was expecting, for all the diagnosis, including a full body scan, and a date for the operation coming through.
I was originally scheduled to have the operation in December following a referral in October, however the operation had to be delayed after I had shingles.
The hospital staff have all been wonderful, the nurses, although rushed off their feet have been very cheerful, there was a very happy atmosphere on the ward. Even the porters were friendly and very caring. One of them called me ‘Flower’, when I said I had not been called this for years he made a point of popping his head round the door to the ward and saying ‘Hello Flower’ to me whenever he was around. Such a little touch but it made a big impact on me.
I’ve not had to chase up the hospital to find out what was going on, what would happen next – they have kept me informed all the way along.
The care package put in place after my discharge has been wonderful – the ladies coming to help me at home have been great.
I just can’t explain how good the whole experience has been!
