"essex county hospital, eye clinic"

About: Essex County Hospital

we visited the eye clinic as an emergency during a stay on the children's ward. there was some issue with paperwork but fully understood due to the rushed appointment being arranged. seen quite quickly and staff always polite and professional. appt was hindered by consultant being hard to understand. my daughter found it quite upsetting that she did not know what to do and couldn't follow their instructions too well as a result. I had to reassure her that the consultant wasn't cross with her as they had to fall back onto hand gestures and single word instructions. this cannot have been pleasant for the consultant either. the whole area for the appt was extremely old, so were all the facilities and furniture. it seemed grubby and unkempt. the whole hospital seemed in an abandoned state, with small pockets of activity in between unstaffed long empty corridors. I am glad to hear the clinics will be relocating, however where to will probably mean the general hospital, the land of parking frustration and being late to appts despite setting off allowing plenty of extra time to park. its a real shame this lovely old building has been left to get into this state, it must affect the staff moral who deserve far better facilities and clean environment...The space here should be utilised fully with nice new units and redevelopment for our hospital. it could offer much needed relief to the huge squeeze at the main site.

I apologise you’ve not had a good patient experience. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. We would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully and to apologise in person. If you are willing I would appreciate it if I could ask the matron to contact you. Could you email me, using the reference “Comment on Ophthalmology at 08/04/2015 14:54:12 ”, please? Many thanks Paul Searle, Head of Communications Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust info@colchesterhospital.nhs.uk
