My husband and I have a baby who is a week old, who was born at Calderdale Hospital. We had hoped to use Huddersfield birth centre for Joshua's birth, but I was induced due to going 14 days past my due date. We arrived at hospital on the Tuesday morning, and Joshua wasn't born until the following evening, so we had 3 sets of midwives involved in the labour. I had stated on my birth plan that I was happy for students to be involved in my care, and each set of midwives had a student midwife who was close to qualifying. The labour itself did not progress how we would have wanted, and there were complications that lead to an assisted birth, but the staff (midwives and the doctors/surgeons/anaesthetists) were all incredibly informative and we felt like we had a say in each aspect of our care and the decisions made. Following a traumatic birth, unfortunately he then developed some complications that involved him being transferred up onto SCBU, but once again, the student midwife caring for me in ward 1D was fantastic, and I was able to continue to breast feed Joshua, even though he stayed in special care for 3 nights. My husband stayed with me in a private room on the 3rd night, which was exactly what we needed. Throughout the pregnancy, the birth and the post natal care so far, I cannot find fault with even one aspect of my care. I really do not understand the negative reviews on here!
"Fantastic care- cannot fault"
