"Hospital Feedback."

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

I have been a patient of Eastbourne District General Hospital for several years now due to my long term condition. I must say sometime I cannot believe some of the negative comments said about the hospital. Yes there is a massive problem arising from moving some of the departments over to Hastings and I feel the only way to get them back to where they should be is the trust finding out their mistakes the hard way. The treatment I have received from the DGH has been nothing but amazing! Every member of the hospitals staff I have come into contact with have been excellent! From consultants, Junior doctors, all the nursing teams, the administration staff and the housekeepers etc. I am totally wheelchair bound now and I have had quite a few operations meaning I have stayed in the DGH wards on these occasions. The last time I stayed in was just a few months ago and I was in for 6 nights and I can say I was as always most impressed by the treatment I received etc. All the doctors were very nice and made sure I understood everything that was happening and were all very reassuring. The nursing staff were absolutely amazing and nothing was too much trouble while they looked after me but I also watched them look after all the other patients and I can honestly say I did not see them stop, even difficult patients were given just as much respect and compassion as I received. I really do not know how they do it. I did watch the housekeepers very closely and I was amazed at how much they actually did. After organising the breakfasts etc. they went onto cleaning duties, the floors were washed properly, the flat surfaces were kept clean and tidy and even the tops of door and window frames were cleaned! Even my visitors noticed it all going on. The food supplier had changed and I can honestly say the food is now the best it has ever been at the DGH so much so I had some of the dishes twice as I enjoyed them so much! I know people say some places are dirty but if you actually watch it’s amazing how many people walk through the hospital in the course of a day…..hundreds if not thousands of patients/visitors visit the DGH daily and with this amount of footfall it’s not surprising some areas get mucky but they do not stay mucky long. I have also just recently had an operation at one of London’s major hospitals and believe me the difference was amazing and this hospital was not a patch on the DGH! The treatment I received both pre and post op was terrible, I was very uncomfortable post op but no one could be bothered to help me and after 24 hours my partner visited and had me out of bed and settled within minutes. The place was a shambles and ever so dirty. The ward I was in only had the middle of the floor lightly swept once all the time I was in there! I was actually quite upset because of how bad this hospital was and I will never go back there! All in all I think the DGH is doing a great job at treating me and I thank-you for all the care I am receiving!
