"An amazingly successful treatment"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit

(as the patient),

Six months ago my heart suddenly went completely out of control. Four emergency hospital admissions later the cardiologists reported that I had two arrhythmias and I was stabilized on medication. But drugs only took me so far; I was left with quite incapacitating symptoms which necessitated stopping work, frequently being unable to keep appointments, and many hours spent lying on the floor.

Last week I was admitted to the RIE for a radio-frequency ablation. The procedure took only two hours but totally transformed my life. Six hours after it, I WALKED out of the hospital unaided, no longer fainting, dizzy, nauseated, my heart beating calmly and regularly.

The electrophysiologist who performed this miracle was wonderful, so calm, inspiring confidence. Everyone who cared for me in the ward and the Cath Lab was kind, professional and efficient. The NHS at its finest.

I can’t thank them enough.

Dear Jayne Paul

It was heartening to read your post. I am so pleased for you that everything has turned out so well after what must have been a very worrying and debilitating time for you.

I will pass your comments on to the relevant department and I am sure they will also be pleased to hear you are doing so well.
