"My experience with Statins"

About: Essex

(as the patient),

I was prescribed statins by my GP just under a year after having had knee replacement surgery. The idea with the knee surgery was that I could probably manage by having one, which was the worse knee, done rather than both knees. When I went for my 1 year follow up, under the statins I was in agony with my knee that hadn't been operated on. I couldn't walk across my kitchen and I was living on pain killers. When I saw the surgeon he agreed that under the circumstances, he would operate on my bad knee, which was difficult because it had been operated on before. I had to wait about 6 months for the new operation. In the meantime I heard that statins may affect your joints. So I stopped taking them. Within 2 days the pain had completely gone! I went ahead with the second op, because I thought it best to get it sorted anyway, but I have to say if I had stopped the statins before the follow up consultation, I wouldn't have pressed to get the second op done!
