"All levels of staff - doctors, ..."

About: Royal United Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

All levels of staff - doctors, nurses, porters etc were caring and professional. Friendly atmosphere. My ward was in the old part of the building and overlooked beautiful gardens - The view of trees and butterflies made me feel very calm. Well equiped with brilliant electric adjustable beds and new furniture.

What could be improved

The ward was only cleaned once a day. The toilets in particular really needed cleaning more often. The food was nice enough but the portions were tiny - eg lunch 2 croquettes, and tablespoons of veg and hotpot. Supper just sandwiches and tinned fruit. I felt sorry for patients that couldn't get to shop to supplement their diet! I think the servers should have asked if you had enough or would like a bit more on your plate.

Anything else?

I was very impressed with this hospital and the way in which I was looked after. I spent time in casualty and the short stay unit. The level of nursing care in particular far exceeded any i have experienced before, even though they were obviously short staffed. Everyone I encountered, such as the radiographers, were professional and friendly, the porters made me laugh and the Doctors actually listened to me. (There's a first!) Based upon my experience I would have no hesitation in recomending this hospital, or returning to it.
